Did anyone else get a chance to pick one of these up? I just got one off buy.com for $323.99 shipped. they were selling them for $343.99, but offered a $20 dollar instant rebate of all ipods. I opted to get this 40gb instead of the photo, because I don't feel much of a use for photos on such a small screen, and sacrificing a color screen for more battery power just seemed like a better idea. Anyone else hit up this deal?

The iPod photo actually has a longer battery life than the 4G (assuming you only use it to play music.)

I had planned to buy one of these before all of the news broke last week. I ended up getting the 40GB photo for $16 more. Mainly so I will have the chance to play with the photo part.
Since you do not care about the color or photo, I see nothing wrong with your choice. Like you I wanted lots of extra room and the buy.com price was sweet. I think that you will be just as happy with your new ipod as I will be with mine.

I got the 40gig Photo merely because for $20.00 more I could get 25% better battery life. I doubt I'll use it for photos...but hey, why not get the photo for a minimal increase in price?

And I figure this way, if anything goes wrong with this iPod, and I decide to contact apple about it, they'll likely compensate me with a 60gb one. I can't imagine them giving me a cash voucher for the online store, as they can't really put a price on something they don't make anymore. |

I actually talked my folks into giving me some money towards it as a birthday present, so the actual cost to me was less.
When you say that they'd compensate you with a 60gb because they don't make the 40gb anymore...do you think they'd do the same witha 40gb photo? I'm just a tad confused... Anyway...I did the 7-9 shipping (Mom said since it's not my birthday yet, I'd have to do that or no money from them!!! Hahah...) - So, it's just a matter of a waiting game now. I actually checked the tracking information and it's no more than an hour drive from me right now...yet, I still have to wait a week!

I just picked up one of the 60GB iPod Photo units with all the original pack-ins on Buy.com for only $429 with free shipping! I got it yesterday and am enjoying the hell out of it! I feel it was a great deal considering the current 60GB unit is selling for $419 at the lowest( with educational pricing ) at Apple.com and it comes with much less pack-in stuff. The Buy.com iPod deals are hard to beat. Get them while they last.

The iPod Photos (with the color screen) have an estimated 15 hour battery life between charges, while the regular iPod only has 12 hours. Where did you get the impression that the iPod Photos have a shorter battery life? |
