4th Gen. iPod locked up(beating a dead horse)

I'm new. I realize there's a million threads about this subject, including a stickied one. None of the ones I've found via searching have given me much of any clue on how to "unlock" my iPod.

My P.C. crashed in the middle of formatting my iPod. Iit had become slow and cumbersome, and would lock up when trying to play it in my car through the monster FM transmitter, whereas my Griffin Technologies transmitter only plays certain bands.

When the computer locked up the screen froze like so:

I heard with the 3rd Gen.'s there was a reset thing(maneuvering the hold, menu and play buttons to some effect). Is there any such thing for the 4th Gen's?

I'm making an eleven (each way) hour drive next weekend, and I'd like to have it working for that. That's about the only time limit I really have and even then it's just preference and not a neccesity.

Still they don't believe us!

Worked perfectly, thanks. But, is that all I need to do? I let the battery die on it to get rid of the screen being stuck and now it's charging on the wall charger. But, once it's done charging, are there further steps? Do I need to format or anything?
