My friend bought a pre-owned 3rd generation 10gig iPod. It is really messed up. In the three computers I have plugged it in to (all Windows XP) they lock up. Windows sees the iPod and begins installing the drivers. Once they finish, however, the system locks up and stays locked up for a few minutes. Then it's back. But whenever I go into a program that would access the iPod (My Computer, Anapod, the Apple updater) explorer.exe locks up. The only way to get windows back is to either unplug the iPod (it comes right back up then), Ctrl-Alt-Del and end explorer.exe and restart it (only works some of the time) or by rebooting.
This same exact thing occurs on all the computers I have tried. 2 of them are 2.53 ghz and one is 1.1 ghz. This also occurs over both firewire and usb. I know for a fact that the usb and firewire ports are working because other devices work. On the ipod, it boots into disk mode when I plug it in. The only way to shut it off is to go into the diagnostic mode and hit sleep there. I have been searching for days on how to fix this and rarely come to a message board for help, but frankly, im stuck. My friend doesn't even want the ipod anymore but I need to fix it cause it's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance. |
