Question iPod Found in San Francisco

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I literally found a 3rd Gen iPod on the street in San Francisco while running some errands during lunch. If the owner has registered his or her iPod, is it possible to find out from Apple the owner, or have Apple contact its owner it has been found. I posted I found the iPod on my local Criagslist lost and found section, but have not gotten any hits. "I'm asking for SN#, model and head phone brand" if the person comes forward in order for me to arrange to meet them." The iPod looks slightly damaged as it was dropped pretty hard or ran over, the LCD is not cracked, but has some type dot matrix smudge inside the LCD diodes, and the sides of the iPod seem to bulge out a little, but the unit turns on. The weird thing is, the iPod had no songs on it, but the head phones are really expensive set" so somebody spent some money on their iPod. Any suggestions.

I'm not a iPod owner, but if I can't find the owner, I will have it repaired and keep it for myself. I actually bought the new Gateway 4gig Mp3 player right before Xmas. Nice player with the color photo screen, almost as nice as the iPod Mini.

its nice to hear that you acted the way you did, not everyone would

but a cracked iPod that works, and one with no songs, did it have any files on it, did you try checking disk mode it might have contacs you could notify, just an idea

but maybe its faights way of giving you a second iPod, the universe is strange and mysterious

Get a hold of apple via phone. They'll tell you if the serial number is registered or not and if it is they will contact the owner on your behalf.

iPod found in SF

I tried looking into the settings in it, nothing, just SN#, no songs or files. I think the iPod is starting to fail, sometimes the picture of the folder comes on then switches to the apple logo, like it's re-booting, or the menu functions don't respond at all.

I don't want any bad carma on my hands, so I will try to find owner if possible.

Try http://www.craigslist.org/ they have a big SF site and it's free to post up.

Good luck in finding the owner. I think an iPod lost and found service could be a nice idea. Register your iPod with the service and maybe they have a web address engraved onto your pod. Cuz i doubt apple will be of any help.

Hi and welcome to the lounge. What you can do is first contact Apple and give them the serial number of the iPod. If it is registered they can contact the owner. They will have you send them the iPod. They will send you a box postage paid to return it to them, I believe. Ask to make sure.

Apple Contact Numbers 1-800-275-2273 is the USA #.(http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html)

Dammm

All those hops across the ocean, these iPods really hold up pretty damm good. So far nobody has come forward to claim it. Looks like I got myself a Ipod for now.

If I expected to find an owner, I'd wait longer than 4 days.
