Ipod wont stay on unless connected to charger

My 3G 15GB ipod wont stay on, nor will the battery charge. It says "charging" but never finishes. When i try to turn it on, i see an apple and it shuts off. I tried restoring it but it didnt work.

Since I have the extended warranty i was thinking about sending it back to apple and getting a new one. But is therw any way to fix this problem without sending it back?

Thanks in advance.

If you can't get it to work or hold a charge even after reseting and restoring your iPod to factory conditions, then you've got a defect of some sort. Send it to Apple.

What if you don't have the reciept anymore? Can you still send it in to Apple and they'll do it for you?

The warranty is tied to the serial number of the iPod. Apple will compare the number when you ask for service to see if it is still covered by warranty.
