Slow Connection to PC

Is it supposed to take 5 mins when I connect my iPod to my Vaio via a USB 1 port for it to recognise it properly and start updating songs and playlists?

Also does anyone know if the FireWire cable is compatible with the 4-pin iLink S400 port on the Sony Vaio in order to speed up the above?

I am using usb 1.1 with my ipod and it takes about 2 mins. But also it depends on the speed of your computer. But usb 1.1 will always be slow. And im not positive about the S400 port, but i think that it is the same thing as firewire?

Yes, iLink is the PC name for Firewire. As long as it is IEEE 1394, you should be fine.

how old is your computer? if its before 2004 chances are that it probably is 1.1.(USB 1).
