Brand new Ipod problem (?)

I opened it on christmas, but just got back to school now. Tossed the CD in, hooked up the USB, and it's been formatting for about 45 minutes now.

The iPod says not to disconnect it, so I havent, but both my computer and the screen are working...

Any ideas?

It's a 40gig btw, running it on winXP.

Be sure to charge iPod before connecting to computer... that's what my documentation read.

After charging, approx 4hrs fresh out of the box, then insert CD and run installer. When ready, the installer program will ask you to connect iPod. Do so using Firewire or USB connector. Then wait for iPod to do it's thing. Once completed you should be able to open iTunes and have iPod mounted.

Fixed

Thanks for the advice. I just clicked the red x, and continued on. The newly installed ipod program said it had to be restored, so I did that, flashed the firmware (or whatever it said), and restarted the installation. It didnt need to be formatted, so I guess it had done it the first time and then froze. It's all working now.

same experience

Yeah that's strange, I did the exact thing you did and I had the ipod sitting for about 30 minutes waiting for it to reformat. I just restarted the computer and plugged the ipod back in and voila...apparently the program just froze.

Same thing happened to me. I only waited 15 minutes though. (I'm a bit impatient)
