Question USB cable problem?

Hmmmm - where to start?

OK, the other day I was transferrring music from my iTunes library to my mini iPod and everyhing was going swimmingly until my iPod logo disappeared from the left hand screen. Since then, I've tried the usual things to get it back like deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes, checking the USB cable etc. but nothing. Now I can't even charge my iPod directly from my PC (although I can do this from the mains through my iPod dock).

Does this sound like a faulty cable problem or something more sinister?

Help!!!

Thanks.
