Does the battery icon indicate a true amount of how much battery is left? >>>>

I haven't used it for long periods at a time, maybe 5-10 minutes each and within a handful of uses it get's down to about half way of such. The apple website says they last up to 12 hours and if the icon is a true representation of the life then I highly doubt it will make it 12 hours, let alone maybe 4 or so.

Also, once a song is playing, how do I completely stop it? (not just pause) There isn't a stop button and I'd like an easy way to stop it before turning it off.

Thanks!

1. no, it's not accurate. please search

2. once it is paused, it is stopped. there is no way to completely stop. don't worry, no extra power is being used that will count in the long run. it's all part of apple's instant on thing i guess.

Consider the battery meter approxamate: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61475

It tries to give you an idea of the approximate power left based on real time usage, so it may temp show a lower power while the hard drive spins, or the backlight is being used.

In digital terms pause works just like stop as there is no mechanical devices to pause or bring to a full stop in say a tape deck. If you wish to clear the listing in now playing either return to the first song and press the previous button or go to the last song in the list and scrub to it's end. Some people build a short playlist with a soung file of 1-2 seconds to clear out the now playing and get the iPod to "Stop" as you say.

But in regular terms there is no need to "Stop" the iPod before putting it to sleep.

Nope, the battery indicator is very unaccurate.
