Ipod makes my computer crash...

Hey there! I was wondering if anyone had come across this. I have two computers that I use my ipod on, one of them a laptop, sony, that uses the 4pin firewire connection, the other a desktop that uses 6pin. The ipod works okay in my laptop, but when connected to the desktop, causes the machine to reboot. It's a terrible pain, as all my music is on the dektop. ANyone heard o this before?

Incidentally, I have multiple firewire sockets on the PC, and have an external hd plugged in that works fien through the socket it's in.
