First off, dont get me wrong, i love the ipod and i cant wait to get mine for xmas. It is a well known fact that the ipod will scratch if you so much as breath on it. There are tons of case companies capitalizing off of this.
am i the only one who thinks it is absolutely rediculous that you cant just use the ipod the way it was born out of the box? apple has created a beatiful product. yetyou just spent a pant load of money on your new baby, so of course you dont want it scratched, and are forced to put an overpriced case on it. its like buying a beautiful new car and having to drive around with a car cover on it! |

well, you're right. but ipod is not just cheaper product that everyone gets. it's expensive that's why many people want to protect it from scratches. me, either. but I didn't spend much money for protection. instead, I spent sort of big money to improve my ear's entertainment. I got few in-ear buds and headphones. but my final list is that Sennheiser PXC-250, and Philips HE61. others were just gone to somebody. my only protection for ipod is leather case (black) from Incase. I used isee-20 little but I returned it back because it made ipod scratch on LCD screen. after cleaning ipod by icleaner, put it Incase leather case for using. so I never touch ipod itself.

You can use it just fine without a case, and I know someone who does, and the iPod works absolutely fine...
I don't know why you wouldn't want a case.. I have a camera case, and everything else is in one... http://www.iskin.com/evo2.html Darn good case, darn good price.. OR, you could get a mini, no case needed.

i'm a new ipod user, have had the u2 ipod for less than a week now.
in a few days it has collected scratches everywhere, nothing too severe just spider webbing. i think the black shows the scratches far more than the traditional white. i'm currently contemplating if i should just keep the u2 and go caseless or return it for a regular ipod and use the extra $70 on a good case and dock. if you're wondering why i dont case the u2, i dont really see a point in it. whats the point of having the u2 if you're going to cover it up with a case? so yeah.. what to do? what to do?? any suggestions? take into account i'm very anal

I love the way my iPod looks and how it feels in my hand but I can't think of a way to recreate that without losing one of the major things that sets iPod apart from all the others... I've had my iPod over three months now with no major scratches at all, so it is possible. I just use a pocket off an old shirt when I put my iPod in my backpack, and make sure nothing else is in my jeans pocket if I'm carrying it there.
To keep scratches off the back, just lie your iPod on a sheet of paper, mousepad, your leg, etc. instead of directly on the hard grainy table surface. When my iPod got its first scratch two seconds out of the box, I was pretty ticked, but now that I've had it while and see how it looks after careful use, I'm fine with the way Apple made it. |

I'll agree, a portable device shouldn't be so scratchable. Apple cares a lot about beauty, so why don't they make it last by investing in some tougher plastic?
I've had mine since early November. It has never touched anything rough or grainy at all, I carry it in a very soft microfiber sunglasses puch, and it has fine scratches all over it, especially on the top where the hold switch and headphone jack are. I ordered an iSee-20 tonight, though, so that should slow down. Last edited by Wild Bill; 12-13-2004 at 01:44 AM. |

Honestly a few scuffs and scratches don't bother me.. I've had my iPod for 14 months now and have never used a case before.. I don't feel the need for it, it plays my music that's it.. I don't need it to be a fashion statement for me.. I have a few scratches, mainly on the chrome, but nothing major. Also I carry it around everywhere with me, mostly to school... All I do is keep it away from things like change and keys in my pocket and it's fine..
Is it really that rare today to have an iPod without a case....? -Dan |

The scratches don't bother me either, in fact I think it adds to the iPod by making it look well used and appreciated.
I do use a case but only when travelling and the iPod is lying in my bag. More to protect the internals from small knocks and stuff.

I use iPod socks...
Do you count that as a case or not?

I find that carrying mine around in a jeans pocked results in scuffing of the front & screen, so really scratches, but it looses its shine and goes sort of matte. So I keep it in the Apple carry case when its in my jeans. It's enough to keep the screen clear, and quite honestly I don't really care about the back/sides. Plus the case was free, so its all good

yea i would love "the perfect case"--
as thick as Lajo eXo3 Covers whole ipod screen and all and its as transparent as perspex. Doubt its possible to get a material like silacone that you can look through it clearly. Would be nice if any skin company is reading this forum make it for me ![]()
