This worked fine on my 6GB Mini.

Go to ipodlinux.org/Firmware for firmware version for various iPods.

Betty, the firmware you should be modding is either 3.2.5 or 6.2.5 for a 1st generation mini (non colored writing on click wheel) and 7.2.5 for a 2nd generation mini (colored writing on click wheel). Hope that helps.

You will have got faster help at iPodWizard.net.

Change a number with a lower number

buildID: 0x03018000 (3.0.1)
visibleBuildID: 0x03018000 (3.0.1)

Now the updater will think you have firmware version 3.0.1 and will let you update without restoring the entire thing.
what I can't figure out is how to just "go on your ipod to ipod_control"

where and how exactly do I "go on my ipod" to change the numbers?

I followed all the instructions on that link, another problem I'm having is when I load the ipod updater, old black & white Icons show up as default in the ipod wizard, but I am using a ipod photo...? so I can't change the images

help!

Crap! I just lost all my graphics after updating to the new firmware that just came out. Is there any way to change the graphics without having to wipe out your iPod every time?

iPod photo uses a different firmware than the regular 20 gig. I think the photo uses the 10 something firmware. Also, to find your iPod, once its plugged in, go to My Computer and it should be in there. It will look like a hard drive. It should be whatever you named it. Open it up and you should see iPod_Control

I figured I'd give iPod Wizard a whirl last night. Apperently my 4G was one of those 10.x.x ones... Either way, it worked and I'm quite pleased with the results :3

Ok, I tried to change my graphics to different ones, but when I updated it, the went back to the original graphix. I have a 1g iPod mini and used firmware 3.2.6.

EDIT: Now the updater wont recognize it. please help!

OK nevermind.I got everything to work again.

My iPod is named "Ace of Spades" (the name of my band) so I thought it only fitting to put an anarchy sign for the "do not disconnect" place.

I also replaced the thing that shows the iPod is working with the computer with little spinning spades and the rating stars have been replaced with spades as well.

I need an idea for the battery icons. I am pretty good at pixel art so I can draw it. I am thinking of using the Dookie logo from the Green Day album and have it slowly dissapear as the battery depletes.

Any other suggestions?
