iPod arbitrarily skips/forwards on to next song

My 20G iPod will arbitrarily decide that it doesn't want to finish playing a song and skip on to the next tune, mid-song. This happens infrequently, but it's infuriating. The exact same songs do NOT skip ahead on my laptop, on iTunes, but this random iPod skipping is most unwelcome. Is this common? Is there a way to make it stop?

Mine does this too, 4G 40GB, and I can't figure out why. It's annoying, I just go back to the song I wanted to hear.

i have a similar problem in my 4G 20 gig. sometimes when i hit play on a song it skips it entirely and plays the next song in the list. i do the same thing tifosiv122 does and just hit the back button. it's a pain though because Murphy's law dictates that this only happens when it's a song i really want to hear and have just put on the hold switch and put it in my pocket so i have to dig it out and skip backwards. oh well

Maybe you should try performing a 'Restore' on your iPod using the iPod Update software.
