I am just about to place an order for one of the 40 gig, Ipod Photos. I have to say the things look so awsome.
One thing I have been looking all over the place for though is information about a remote that has a lcd display. So far that i can tell, no one has a lcd display even avalible for the ipod. I have searched through the forums and found a guy had reverse-engineered a ipod or something and found a way to possibly send the information. Basically what i would like to know is... 1. Is there any Ipod lcd remotes out there that i just cant find? 2. If not, does anyone know if is or will be possible for a lcd remote to work with the Ipod? 3. Has anyone tried using a lcd remote from an Iriver or something? or are they totally incompatable? Any info or talk about a remote would be greatly helpful. Thanks, Ben |

I've been looking for the same thing. And I don't see anything out their to satisfy our desire. It would be great if we could get an LCD remote similar to the one that comes bundled with the Sony Network Walkman (NW-HD1). I wonder if the ipod remote port has enough functionality in it to support an LCD remote. Probably not, otherwise some manufacturer would have already pumped one out. As for question number 3, I REALLY doubt the remote from a different device would work on the ipod. Actually, I'd bet big money against it working. --Bit |

I think it'd be great if people email them so they know the demand for a device such as an LCD remote. The iPod CAN send all the artist/album/current title information through the remote port too.

I was trying to find a place like, a sales rep or something that could answer the question and encourage me to buy one...but to no avail... so i wrote my question to the suggestions thing...i doubt i'll ever hear from them...

I have the standard iPod remote by Apple and enjoy it for its functionality and simplicity. I, too, have wondered about a more robust remote with a simple 1-2 line display and all the basic controls.
With all of the new accessories (some great, some useless), a remote of this caliber would be ideal! Perhaps the iPod is not built to send that information externally and/or perhaps the remote itself would provide too much of a battery drain (although the implementation of an optional button-battery could work). I hope this comes on the horizon soon... in the meantime, I do recommend the current remote. I found one on eBay for under 20 (without extra headphones). |

yarg! that is very impressive silver....so there is something with a lcd display for the ipod....
I am not going to buy a 3g just to get an lcd remote that isnt out yet though....but this does lead to some hope for the 4g. and yes i searched the forums and there wasnt anything recent on it...like the newest thing i could find was from a year ago...figured i would make a topic.

it would be cool if when you plug in the lcd remote (when and if it comes out) the regular screen to the ipod would shut off and you could just use the remote screen. also, you would have complete control of the ipod, (all the same buttons, so that you can move throughout the music like a regular ipod) instead of just changing the song or volume like the current remote does. i dont know if this will ever happen tho
even if it did, it would probably be kind of expensive
