'Limit' file is found only on Mac version of the 2nd gen iPods.

One thing, since the volume level is very high now, my Apple headphones don't seem to support such violence. They kind of buzz at max volume... Will get myself some real headphones!! ;-)

Does this increase the volume for US/Canada users as well?

Don't know, why don't you check it out with your iPod? If you get even more volume, let me know.
Anyway changing the number in the Limit file dont adjust the limitation. Like, I typed 100 and put back the limit file (initially it was 216), but was limited like before and not more. So I'm not quite sure how exactly it works.

If you have a gen2 you could have done that a lot easier...just download the us firmware from apple.com and run it...no more limit.

a easier solution for mac users of the ipod to overcme the volume limitiation is to adjust the volume of each track in itunes. get info a track r bunch of tracks and adjust the volume slider ( i recommend to about +80% - any more risks distortyng your music). update you ipod and hey presto - louder music.

sparks9, there's NO US specific update file. The unique update file collects the region information from some place I choose to ignore (maybe system settings maybe your IP number etc...).
Coz I reformatted my iMac AND my iPod, and intalled everything with US settings, and still somehow it knew I was in Europe. Then I found this Limit file and DESTROYED IT!!! go for it guys. Apple may be right to comply with such annoying regulations, but you are right to fight for your personal liberty also. |

No, it dosen't. I own a 10GB windows iPod (second gen with touchpad) and the limit file was there. I sent it to hell and holy ####, my volume on the iPod is twice as high right now.
