Ok, i'm newbie with a problem here :P
actually i don;t even have an IPOD yet :P but soon :P ok i want to buy this georgeous IPOD after reading so much good thing about it , and also after comparing it to IMHO sucks challenger such as ZEN,RIO,etc. Ok cut of the crap , now the problem is that i 'm not sure which Ipod should i buy. I want to buy the 40 Gygabyte, but still confused between the 3G and 4G. Well i never had an Ipod before so please give me some clue here of which is better. I already read the Ipodlounge's review about the 3G and 4G but still coul;dnt decide, i need opinion of the Pros here :P Well i planned to use my Ipod for listening to my music and also as a back up storage for my digicam when i'm on vacation. please give me a clue of which Ipod should i buy , in terms of ease of use, quality, and all other thing that impotant. And also what accesorry that is a must buy, to go with the Ipod. My digicam is a sony, and uses Memory stick, is the belkin digicam link is a good buy ?? ok and last thing ( actually the problem that making me confused) is that here in my country, they offering : -3G 40 gig Ipod US$280 -4G40 gig Ipod US$400 bith brand new, but i know that the 4G doesn;t come with the remote and the case , while the 3g does. so is this remote and case is essential ?? please help me make my decision, before they run out of stock of the 3G , thank you. |

Some people freak out over scratches so they buy a case. I dont have one, its optional. The remote is optional as well. I have a feeling that the 3g 40gig you looking at is refurbished (used and then fixed up) I would get the 4g because of firmware updates and the clickwheel makes navigation very easy.

I own a 4G, but for that price, i would have gotten a 3G. There is not enough difference to justify the price difference. I would definitely get a skin to protect it.

it should contain the same software, but as Potter said, it seems awfully like you're getting a fixed up one, especially for that price. When you say both are brand new, do you mean a friend is selling, or that you are buying off Ebay? Somtimes it can be that "Brand New" should be taken with a pinch of salt, so to speak.

3G has an older firmware than 4G (4G is 3.0.1 compared to 2.2) and 4G includes USB cable, 3G doesn't.

That is one heck of the price difference, but I would still lean towards the 4G. I'm glad to see you want 40GB, because too many people don't get extra space for the future.
The 4G has the current support, extra battery life, and all new accessories in the future will definately work. The remote was neat at first, but I stopped using it because there ended up being too many cords and i wanted to see the display on the iPod anyways.

Actually my friend own a shop here, and because in my country Ipod is not popular, that;s why he want to sell the 3g with that price, but 4 G is normal price because he has no stock and has to order it .
anyway he say that the 3G include usb . now i'm cofused wheter the Usb is included or not. anyway , how long is a n average baterry life for the 3G ? still leaning towards sthe 3G cause i think that nice illuminated buttons will help me more when i use in in my car :P but don;t know if the 4G is more superior than the 3G. still confuse anyone help ?errmm another qustion, what is the best format of storing my music in Ipod ? when i said best it means that the best of compromise between size and sound quality, thx :P |

I would go for the newer 4g if money was not an issue, the longer battery life and continued firmware support and slightly better sound quality justify the cost. Another thing I dislike about my 3g is it's poor equalizer settings, supposedly the 4g's have much better equalizer presets!
However, if money WERE an option the 3g is still a great choice... The extra accessories are not necessary in my opinion, a case and a good set of headphones are more important than a dock or remote! To answer your questions, the 3g's did not come with a USB cable, a USB cable would have to be a separate purchase... firewire is MUCH better though. The battery life of a 3g iPod is about 5-6 hours using an equalizer and occasionally browsing through songs. My battery life is about 5 hours now. I tend to discredit the claims of people getting 8+ hours from their 3rd gen iPods because they usually don't use equalizer settings and listen to one long playlist at a time... or in other words, NOT normal usage conditions.

The 4G has 12 hour battery life and the 3G has 8 hours.
The USB doesn't normally come with the 3G, only firewire, so unless he's throwing it in as an extra, you''' have the buy THIS so you can charge and be connected to the computer at the same time.
