I just had a panic attack, I've been importing songs into iTunes for 3 days (I just got a 3G 40gb). I noticed that one CD I was importing was going pretty slow and finally looked like iTunes gave up. I went to play the tracks from my library and discovered that some songs that were supposed to be 4-6 minutes long were ripped as 0:32 and 0:05 SECONDS long.
I've been ripping while doing other things, I just wait to hear that chime signaling iTunes is ready to chew on another CD. I'm gonna be ####ed if a lot of my CDs are incomplete rips because of iTunes not doing it's job. My CD reader is a TDK DVD420N DVD+RW/CD+RW I had already run tests and it has 8 on DAE. I don't think it's the burner, but you know how some CDs are stubborn when it comes to extracting tracks from them. My gripe is, shouldn't iTunes compare the final ripped tracks with the ones retrieved from the CDDB? I mean, come on! Does anyone have a fast way of comparing the files in my library to the correct length the tracks should be? I'm hoping I don't have to go in and compare every album, every track. I'm only 1/4 of the way through and I'm already up to 2800 tracks! I'm gonna crack if I have to check each song because iTunes isn't reliable. |

This probably isn't the case for you, but--
I had a similar problem over the weekend and also blamed iTunes. Turns out the HD which contained my Music library was failing. It's now dead. Although most of the drive was backed up, if I'd realized what was actually happening, I might have had a chance to grab the small percentage that wasn't, so I thought I'd mention it. |

The HD I'm ripping to is relatively new (2-3 months). And I run Windows off of a partition on the same drive, so I don't think it's the drive.
Anyone know of a way to verify my rips automatically? |

Are the CD's copy protected because that might have something to do with it!

Some may be, I couldn't tell you honestly. But I did put the same CD in my other CD drive and it ripped slowly but it completely ripped. The thing that bothers me isn't the slow ripping speed with an occasional CD, the fact that bothers me is that iTunes gave up and ripped an incomplete track (5+ minutes was ripped as 0:15 seconds) and iTunes didn't notify me that there was an error.

I hav the same problem, of about 2500 tracks it seems as if 30 have been ripped improperly. The way I figured out is I sorted by song lenth and looked through manually.
