Before I'd let some Third Party Hacker near my iPod I'd just decide to do the work on my own. The trick use Linux to repartition and format your iPod and use Apple's very own Update Software to get yourself setup!

The Voulume Cap is set by the size of Partition One the iPod OS Partition. IIRC EU iPod use a >32MB Partition where as the rest of World+Dog use the full 39.1MB Install. Bottom line it works your not modifing anything but the the size of the OS Partition that would otherwise be set by the internal Region Code and Serial Number (i.e. the The real Firmware!!) thats stored on the Hardware EEPROM. When you use the Restore Feature of the Update Software. This is why only useing the Update Feature is so important to the succsess of that hack!

Well, i can understand that.I`ve been here since May 2003.I just didn`t post.Ok thats another story.Loads of people in a german ipod forum have testet it and it works.

http://www.i-pod.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3229

I don`t know if it helps it`s all in german. It just came out yesterday and only concerns european ipods. So it`s gonna take some time till the word spreads.

I wouldn't really consider "repartitioning and resizing the firmware partition" as "not modifying anything".

We're all talking about modifying the harddisk image, so nothing will get modified in eeprom or flash.

Diskmode will always be working, even if you write /dev/urandom to you ipod, so Apple's restore will never fail. You can't (at least, i didn't succeed) change the firmware so that the ipod won't boot at all.

And, you can remove the hack as quick as you applied it, without leaving any traces on the device.

The new version of euPOD doesn't work properly for me and even if it did, not having to run another program after updating my ipod with new tunes would be nice.

So has it changed anything?

Because i'm getting an iBook soon and as far as i know EuPod isn't available for Macs, but i've heard there are other programs for the Mac (anyone know what they are??)!

But this would be a good thing to do if it really worked well..........?!

Windows version worked on my 3g. It's not a huge increase in volume, so don't expect miracles.

Seems to work well. I was listening to Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit before the update on my speakers - after the update it certainly sounds louder (no change made to the speakers).

We have a USA mini ipod with no restriction and a UK 4g with restriction.

After running the windows software both machines are exactly the same volume.
