Question 30Gb 3G iPod aka 'iPod From Hell'

Ok then, this is more for my own curiosity rather than a plea for help, but has anyone else had the same problem?

I *used* to have a 30Gb 3G iPod - used to, in that the shop has taken it back and is going to be swapping it for a lurverly 40Gb 4G version... Mmmm!

ANYWAY, my problem started when I tried to connect it to a Windows XP machine and upload a few albums. Connecting... up comes the 'Do Not Disconnect' on the pod... and does so for about 15mins. At the same time, NOTHING on the PC works. No programs, nothing! Only until I physically remove the pod from the system did everything start working again.

Ok, suspect it being a schizophrenic Windows issue, try to connect to a 2.5Ghz G5 machine at my ex-work (on very good terms with the manager of the shop I should add!) and what happens? My iPod from Hell manages to crash that monster as well!

Anyone else had this sort of problem or should I recommend that I get my iPod excorised?

I hear ya Muzakman, I'd rather build my own damn machine if I am going to spend so much money. To the original poster I suspect that either the Ipod was defective or that no one at apple can code for windows; windows likes to complain that it cannot read my Ipod when I connect it to my custom built machine via usb, for about half a second then it behaves. I just feel like the Apple coders are to put it simply morons. But you are definetly not the only windows user without certain issues in regards to connecting to a pc. I hope the 4g works out for you.

Thumbs up Buy macs cheaper with Apple

Macs really are better!!! I should know... I use a mac at work and a PC at home. Nothing but problems at home, sweet scented roses at work. But I hear what you're saying about price. So, check out the Apple store auctions every Wednesday between 10:00am and 4:00pm (UK) to 'bid' on refurbished, fully warranted Apple machines and goodies. Up to half price and, if you change you mind when you receive you lovely new (refurbished) Mac, you can always send it back without charge. GREAT!

Heheh!

Again, I know the guys at work - so I picked up a 12" iBook, G4 800 for... ??450 including 2yrs warranty.

And yes, when my 40Gb 4G comes back home, it's got itself a lovely Mac to welcome it.

And it was just a shop display model too, where no customer had managed to abuse it!
