You know how Apple is; really hush hush. Heck, look at how the 4G was released. But don't worry, it will come. When is another story.

I hear you

Obeygiant,

I was hoping for a 60 gigger as well, but since i was using a 30 from the previous generation I elected to move up to a 40 from the new generation.

My whole library won't fit either, but one hell of a lot of music will.

I do not think we are in a position to demand anything from apple. If you are dissatified with their products vote with your wallet and take you business elsewhere.

you have OVER 40gb?!?! WOAH! how many songs is that!? I personally feel that 15GB of music in your pocket is ENOUGH for anyone. (thats not just because i have a 15gb pod though :P)....

out of curiosity...

on iTunes, at the bottom of your library where it tells you how many gigabytes you have, it also tells you how many days worth of music you have. How many days of tunes do you have?

That's alot of music. While I would never have that many songs I can certainly fill up the HDD with file backups

60GBs would be good. I like listening to Bootleg concerts, which you pretty much need to have in WAV format to sound good, so each concert would be around 1 GB or so. 40GBs is good enough for me though.

I am guessing you should lower your encoding rate or stop pirating music
I get about 5 albums a week and encode at 160 MP3 and I still can't fill up my 20GB. If Apple came out with 60 or 80 (although this is somewhat doubtful IMO because that market wouldn't be as big as other sizes) I would buy 80GB and go for lossless.

Heck, 60 Gigs wouldn't be enough for me! I DEMAND a 250GB iPod NOW! If Apple won't give us one than we should start useless petitions, boycott their products, picket their corporate offices, make stupid movies about how much iPods REALLY suck and ANYTHING else we can do to be a nuisance and draw attention to ourselves!

WHO'S WITH ME!!!!!

It will be interesting to see if a 60GB model happens. While there are certainly people who want one, are there enough for Apple to make money producing such a product? It's interesting that there's only one such player on the market, made by Creative, and it is only available on the web or by direct order -- no stores carry it. Additionally, Creative's latest DAP (clearly modeled on the iPod) is only 20GB. Rio Karma only makes a 20GB player, iRiver's largest is 40GB.

I recognize that there is some satisfaction to carrying all of a large music collection around. But whether this is important to a lot of people is debatable -- at least at this point it does not. However, maybe switching to a lossless format will help.

In the perspective of the entire situtation. Those that demand insane 60GB iPod for music purpose is low.

Using it as a portable HDD is a good argument though. iPod's increase in capacity is evolving this decivce into something more than just another MP3 player. It can now be used in photography (memory readers), voice recorders, and of course portal HDD for Business and Personal needs. Apple i'm sure is winning people over beyond the music now. This little device has become a dream device that can do so much more than what it was originally designed for. Truly a lifestyle integrated product.

In that sense, i say yes to more memory. However, i don't see too many people buying them tho. Even now, there are more people who purchased 4G 20GB even with the choice of 4G 40GB. Meaning at this stage in our society, 20GB is enough for average person. By the logical conlusion, pumping out 60GB will promote even less sales.

In the best interest of Apple, they should halt their effort into fitting more GB into the whitebox and focus their energy on improvments upon their current GB count. Some of these things could include slimer, longer battery life, new screen interface, decrease the mass, etc.

These are what the majoirty of the people look foward to in comparison to amongst 'few' who simply demand for larger HDD either to fit their needs or simply for the bragging rights.

They wont do it
Didnt phillips or some other company make a 60 gig mini hard drive? didnt apple "reject" it or something? Correct me if im wrong, i just remember reading about it here

^ got it right
Unless the price of a 40 gig drops to 299 then thiers no way apple is going to make a 60 gig.
Almost no public demand for it

Well Toshiba claimed that Apple Bought a few thousand 1.8" HDDs for the 4G, but no one knows what has happened to them.

Isn't apple still working on the Newton PDA product?

http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?si...id=100&tid=180

I am betting all those "reported" 60GB mini HDD was used for something other than iPod.

Who knows, Integration of Newton and iPod? Pocket iPod?

Apple has said in the past on more than one occasion that they won't be entering the PDA market again. Also, a few months ago, Steve Jobs stated that he is proud that Apple, in addition to shipping the iPod, decided not to bring to market a PDA.
