Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I've had my Windows 3G ipod for over a year now and have had little to no problems with it. When I noticed that I was reaching the maximum capacity, I began to deltete certain large files to make room for others. That's when the problems started.
I began getting "Windows Delayed Write failed" error messages. This message would pop up repeatedly even after I clicked OK. Eventually it happened whenever I docked my ipod. I use Windows 2000 and the ipod is recognized in My Computer, but I'm not able to access it, re-format it or do anything else. I have tried restoring, reformating and resetting the ipod as well as restarting my computer but none of this works. Whenever I dock my ipod, iTunes and or my entire comoputer freeze up. I'm going crazy because this came out of nowhere. I've read similar posts but they just suggest getting a better firewire card. I've had mine for a year, why would it fail now? Also, my ipod shows no songs or artists on it, but when I clicked "About" it read that is was almost full, yet displayed no stored info. Is there a way to completely re-format my ipoid manually and simply upload my songs from my harddrive? |

I'm afraid I have no solutions to help you, I can only say I have experienced that error message (along with many more), only my ipod has 10 gig free.
i have also had my ipod for over a year now and am only just experiencing problems ... it's starting to feel like a time released virues ... well ... only when I'm at my most paranoid.

I've just uninstalled my itunes from my PC ... then pooped the ipod in the dock ... I was able to see the ipod as a HDD so I started copy some files to it. Everything seemed ok, then suddenly half way through copying I started to get the write error ... so this rules out itunes as the cause (well in my feable mind) the only other options that that can be the cause are windows 2k, or the update. Now I've been usinf windows 2k with my ipod for a year or so ... never had this problem untill recently ... so that brings me to the only logical conclusion ... it's the update.
It must be ... mustn't it? |

VIA chipsets are problematic. Use cards with either NEC or Texas Instraments chipsets. Or better yet, use one of the cards that Apple recommends:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93405 I had this exact same problem with my cheap eBay firewire card with VIA chipset, changed to a Belkin, and it works perfectly. Hopefully they will upgrade the firmware for this, and properly QA their products instead of rushing it out, like most companies do. |

This is definitely a hard disk failure - one of the technicians at the local Apple store told me so...my 2-month old 4G 40Gig is giving de same prob, and I'm DYING :'-(
Gonna send it in to Apple soon hopefully...

Damn.. My 3 month old 4G 40Gb is just starting to do the same thing. First it would freeze up and crash my mac when trying to copy files to it in HD mode and now im getting these write errors in XP. I can actually hear the hard drive spining then suddenly stop like its lost power and then start spinning up again and thats when it starts causing problems..

I have been having sporadic problems with my mini. So I decided to do a reset. When I reconnect the ipod to the pc to copy the music etc from itunes to the ipod, i get the following error-
"Windows- Delayed Write Failed Windows was unable to save all of the data for the file \Device\Harddisk\2DP(1)0-0+17Pod_Control\Music\F25\Z5AA.m4a. The data has been lost. This error maybe caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere" I am not the first to report this issue. Anything new on a fix? |

One definite issue I have found that gives the 'write delay' error is when you use up all of your space on your computer's hard drive with your xml and xtl files from Itunes. This relates to when you are on a network that limits your 'my documents' space. I moved my actual library to a location on my harddrive, however the xml and xtl files will always remain in the 'my documents' folder by default. This sucks by the way and it would be great if Itunes would let you move those files as well. If your library is very large (mine is 69 gigs), the xml/xtls combined can take up a great deal of space (about 40 mb in my case). I have yet to find a way to overwrite the xml/xtl location.
I know this is not the same problem, but I wanted to put it out there as a possible related problem. |
