I just bought a ipod mini. I got win98 at home and got the s/w installed on my machine and formatted my ipod. I then brought the ipod over to a XP machine and when trying to do a update to get the s/w back it's telling me I gotta format my ipod again. Should I format it? or will that just take me back to where i started?

To add on to my last post. I tried to run my updater on the XP machine again and it said I was up 2 date. The only option I got now is restore. However when I turn my ipod on I still only got the folder with the exclamation mark. Any help is appreciated.

Here is my problem. I am running Win98SE with usb1 and have successfully downloaded the drivers. I have a HP Gen 4 ipod and it says I need to format this drive. Do I have to do this when it is a windows ipod?? When I right click on the removable drive it says the file system is FAT. So I don't know what to do...

Don't format your iPod with regular Windows tools!
You have to use Updater (XP, 2000). More info here Last edited by ohm; 03-23-2006 at 02:46 AM. |

I have a 20GB 4G iPod. It is currently connected to my computer by USB and is being charged from it, but it does not appear as a drive and therefore I cannot use ephPod. Will this problem be solved if I shell out for a firewire card?

OK, nothing seems to be working for me and I don't want to screw up my new and unreturnable ipod so here's the skinny:
I have a 4g hp 20gb ipod. Then I have pc1 - with 98SE and my music. There is also pc2, with itunes and my ipod formatted to connect with it. Is there any way to make my ipod appear as just a removeable hard drive on pc1? because then i can dump all my music in pc2 to upload it properly.... The problem may arise in the fact that i formatted my ipod to sync with pc2 already!! is there any solution which won??t screw up my pod? note: I'm trying to get it to work using usb2, and i have no idea what version the installer on the cd is or what to do with it if i have the right one. I've got a 2G 20Gig Ipod (Windows Format). It's working because i had Windows XP installed for a while (video card didn't work with XP, so I went back to Win98 first edition). So, now I'm running Windows 98 First Edition and want to get my Ipod running (i have a firewire card that I installed to work with my iPod/windowsXP).
When i connect the Ipod via firewire, i get an prompt asking to install drivers -- can't find drivers, so the ipod is listed with an "!" in the device manager. Are there any drivers to get the Ipod runnin on firewire for windows 98 first edition? If not, how could i get my iPod runnin w/out buying a new OS???? Thanks much!! |

hi,
im having some trouble formatting my ipod. after i put the apple disc in, some stuff installs, and i get a screen saying i need to upgrade from 98se to 2000 or XP. does anyone know why i dont get the welcome screen??? also, i tried to do this manually and i did the file search but the ipodforwinupdater... doesnt come up. in its place i get ipod updater 2004 windows installer package. is this the same thing? when i tried to run it, i was told a device is not operating or is not connected. does my ipod need to be connected while i install onto windows or just when i install onto my pod?? any help will be greatly appreciated!! thanks, rafeena |

If you have new model of iPod (4th Gen and newer) you cannot format it without Windows 2000/XP. More info here: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthr...&threadid=6581

Hello, I just recently purchased a mini iPod and I thought it was gonna be great having it...until I tried installing it. I have Windows 98 SE, and whenever I try to install it, it tells me I need Windows 2K or XP.
So, I tried to install it using InstallShield Wizard. However, here's my real problem: It doesn't give me a welcome screen- it goes straight to language choice . Can anybody help me with this? Also, I'm not computer literate, so if you could explain it in lamen terms, that'd help Thanks guys ![]() Ashley. |
