what does DISK MODE mean???

please help me!!! my ipod started hanging at first and it didnt want to play music. and then it turned off. then suddenly an apple kept blinking on the screen and then a folder with an exclamation point appeared on and off. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? i tried to listen to it and i heard like a clicking sound, sort off. then i tried plugging it to my computer and charging it at the same time. so the battery thing came out on screen so i understand its charging. then right beside it, it says: DISC MODE. what is wrong with my ipod???? help!!!!!!! i just got it 2 days ago!! come on!!!

Folder with exclamtion point - corrupted partition - reformat your iPod

Disk Mode - Disk is constantly spinning to enable faster scans when using as a hard drive.
