I just got my ipod today and had a little mishap. I accidentally formatted my HD through windows explorer, thus losing the firmware in my ipod. So I took the CD and did a restore, but at the end of the restore process, it stops and says that it can't unmount my ipod. So I just manually disconnected the ipod and after a few seconds of the apple logo on my ipod, I got the menu. Now the problem is when I try to use the ipod manager to update the firmware, the "update" button on the software updater is not even highlighted, so I can't click on it. The only thing I can click on is "restore". Is this normal? Is it because there is no new firmware update? Also when I try to update the firmware using ephpod, it doesn't want to update the firmware because it says it can't detect my ipod although I'm able to transfer songs.
One last thing..... when I change my ipod's name, is it supposed to show up on the ipod menu? I try christening my ipod using ephpod and the ipod got renamed in windows, but it still says "ipod" on top of my ipod menu screen. Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx. Vixus |

yes it is normal that happened to me too, i believe its because there is no other update available that you cant update it, so unless Apple releases a new update its not going to let you update the firmware.....
