Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but i've been workin on old iPods for a while now. I have recently purchased a 5GB 1st Gen Classic with a bad hard drive with the hopes of upgrading to a 15GB or 20GB for kicks.
Before I do that tho, I was wondering if one of these SSD mods would work in such an old iPod. I see that people have modded 5th/7th Gens with SSD storage quite a bit, but I was looking into a KingSpec 32GB SSD/CF, it has the same 50 pin connector as the old classics had (before the ribbon), the SSD is the same dimensions as the older HDs and runs at the same voltage (3.3v). The only curiosity that I have with this specific SSD is that its interface is ?PATA? where the 1st Gen HDs run ATA-5. I was wondering how big of a difference this would make for a nice PNP mod and if anyone knows whether or not the firmware/logic board would support it or not. |
