Song order on iPod changed

Hello, I've recently come across a problem on my iPod (5G I believe). After the last sync, the order of songs, albums, and artists listed on the iPod (in Music>Songs/Cover Flow, etc., playlists are unaffected) has changed.

Whereas before everything was in alphabetical order and would start with 'A', and titles with 'a' or 'the' at the beginning would be listed according to the following word (for example, the song The Caudal Lure would be listed under C), the lists now start with numbers/symbols, and any song/album/whatever that starts with 'a' or 'the' are all listed together in alphabetical order (under A and T, respectively).

Restoring the iPod solved the problem ~2 weeks ago when this first happened, and I added music between now and then, but only when I added music again today did it change back to this screwed up order. Does anyone know any fixes to this problem? Preferably ones that are more permanent than restoring. Any help is much appreciated!

Then next time you are syncing your iPod with iTunes, select all your iPod songs, right-click on the selection and go to "Apply Sorting Field > All Matching Fields". Then click OK upon prompt to apply the changes and Sync your device.

Does this restore the original sorting order?

you might be syncing you ipod with a 3rd party software like winamp or etc. unvoluntarily. if tronZ's asnwer doesn't help or if the problem appear again after a while, check for these. winamp caused this problem on my ipod for a few times.
