went to work and left my ipod in the car, in the cup holder next to a 42 ounce cup of water I had. I return to the car to find that apparently the cup leaked and filled the cup holder up which also had my ipod.
First thing i did was try to turn it on.. (dumb I know) No response. So i put it in rice and let it sit for the last 2 days. Today I attempted to turn it on and still nothing. So i plugged into the charger and after a short time apple logo appeared and then it seemed to operate as normal. As soon as I unplugged it however, the screen went black again. No problem i figured as the battery is probably drained. I put it back on the charger and now its just flashing the apple logo but very dim. The bottom of the screen is now also "messed up" with little lines acrossed it. It sits right now plugged into the computer. Any suggestions? I find it odd that it seemed to work ok for a few mins, then suddenly reverts back. |

The absolute worst thing you could have done was plug it into a charger while there was still water inside of the iPod. It takes a long, long time for the rice method to work. You have to do that right away by putting the iPod inside of an air tight container with dry rice. The best thing to do would have been to let the iPod sit in a rice filled container for 5-7 days straight.
Even then, the likelihood of it fixing the problem is slim since your iPod was soaked in water for ~6-7 hours while you were working. Right now you need to unplug the iPod from any power source (this includes a computer) as that is only going to cause further damage. It is also an electrical hazard. Look online and follow video instructions for opening the iPod. It can be done relatively easily but you have to be careful. After that, you need to unplug the battery and careful inspect the iPod. Wipe away any additional water and let it sit, open, in an air tight container filled with new dry rice. Leave it like that for about 4 days. Just be careful not to get rice inside of the iPod. Then plug the battery back in and try turning the iPod on. If you don't want to do all of that, the next solution is to just buy a new iPod. Right now it sounds like your iPod is going to need some heavy fixing including (but not limited to) a new battery, a new logic board, a new display, and possibly a new hard drive (I assume you have an iPod with a hard drive since you never specified). If you don't have an iPod with a hard drive (such as an iPod touch or iPod nano), you can kiss it goodbye as those are really difficult to open without damaging them.
