iPod classic charging/power down?

Hi all,
This is my 1st thread on here, so be easy with me.

I have the 1st ipod classic 160gb which came out about 7/8 year ago, not had any problems, it works 100%

I have just fitted into my car a touch screen tv,sat nav with ipod control head unit.
I works fine with my ipod, i can pick songs etc, but it does not charge or power down my ipod.
So if im listening to the ipod and i switch the car off, the ipod goes back to main screen and just stays on until its battery is dead. If i switch the car off and then return 10mins later and restart engine the unit starts on ipod control screen but will not play from where it was last.

How do i get the ipod to charge and power down/off?

Thanks.

A little note of correction: the first 160GB iPod classic was released in 2007 about 5 years ago. Just a little FYI so you know the iPod classic you are dealing with. Now, we cannot answer your question at all since we do not know anything about your car's stereo system. You would be better off e-mailing the company who made your stereo system as everyone is going to be different. I am sorry but that is the best route. Otherwise we are just going to use Google (the same thing you can do) to suggest something.

Hi, Sorry its a 5th Gen (with video) 30gb ipod

I have talked to the company who fitted my head unit in my car and they said 'thats right it does not charge'

So what to do is add charging and also power down/turn off then the head unit turns off, so if any knows which wires to connect to in the ipods 30 pin plug for charging and also now to get it to power down?

I have found out it can charge/sync through USB and charge only through firewire.

Thanks.

The ability to send a "kill" signal to the iPod will be impossible to determine and odds are high that you won't be able to do it as the head unit itself is continually sending a signal to the iPod to keep it on (as if it is charging). Normally, when other accessories do this, they fully turn off and so the iPod will either idle and charge (and eventually enter sleep mode) or it will turn itself off after a few seconds because it isn't receiving an outside charge.

Here is a website detailing the 30-pin dock connector that Apple implements in all of their iDevices. Use it at your own risk.
