[?] iPod Classic 160gb US Firmware

Hi, first i must say that english is not my native language but iŽll try.

Here in the EU the iPod Classic Modells are volume locked by Apple because there is a law in Frace that want this limitation.
This limitation is my problem. The iPod Classic is a nice Player but when you sit in a rail ore in a loud bus its not loud enough for me.
So iŽm searching the web to find out how i can fix this problem and get around these limitations.
Now the problem is that there is no tool or hack for the Classic, nothing works to turn off these volume lock.
Now my last change is to put the latest US Firmware on my EU model and now i have the next problem. When i download iTunes, Apple knows that i am living i the EU and so a can only download the limited EU Firmware.
There is no way for me to download the US Firmware.

And here is my question.
Can somebody please upload the latest US Firmware for me?
I have found another Thread here whith a link but the Firmware is too old and the link are dead.

In the EU we have the following Firmware:
Version 2.0.4

To find the iPod Firmware you must have a look into this folder (i hope that is the right one):
C:\Dokuments and Settings\YouUser\Application Data\Apple Computer\iPod Software Updates\

In this folder are two files:
1. *.ipsw (this is the firmware and its about ~50mb)
2. *.ipsw.signature (this is a signature ore verification file for the firmware and its about ~1kb)

The latest iPod Classic EU Firmware files are:
1. iPod_35.2.0.4.ipsw
2. iPod_35.2.0.4.ipsw.signature

And now i need your help.
Can someone please pack the latest (i think its a 2.04 Firmeware too) US Firmeware and the signature file together in a rar File ore something like that and upload it to a free filehoster like rapidshare, hotfile ore something like that?
This is my last change to turn off this limitation. That would be a great help for me!
Thanks!

You can't get around the volume cap as the firmware for a U.S. iPod will not install on a European model. There aren't any hacks that you can implement either. About the only thing you can do is boost the volume of your audio files for playback on your iPod.

Another option is to use a headphone amp between the iPod headphone jack or dock connector and headphones.

One guy in our forum say that he had do this and that his Pod is louder now but he had no firmware anymore so i want to try it by myselfe.
When it did not work it was worth a try.

No, that did not work because the iPod was cut at 100db i think.
I try it with a tool called "mp3gain" but when you go over a certain volume (i think its about 92 or 95db you destroy your mp3 files, you have irreparable defects in the tracks for example sough and the music is overdriven).
I try that all but the results where not worth mentioning.

I try a dock connector adapter but the sound with that was not the best and i dont want do waste money anymore for these gimmicks and adapers.

Even though Mp3Gain will make your music distort (clipping) when you go to high it should not damage the mp3 files. Normally you can still turn the gain back down since the volume level is not changed in the music data but using an entry in the tag. MP3Gain will also return your music back to it's original settings as long as you use it on the same system you initially changed it with. There was issues were MP3Gain could damage the files in the early days but it was for different reasons, and you should always make a back up of your music before making any major change. I believe for many of us, most of our files were well above 95db before we first used it lowering the volume to reduce clipping. In my case the default 89db was to low and 92db was acceptable with minimal clipping. But going too high will probably cause more clipping and noticeable distortion which is why I recommended a good headphone amp.

I'm not sure what you tried but any headphone amp I tried was equal to better sound quality than the stock amp in any of my iPods/iPhone as well as going to higher volume levels with my higher end headphones. I don't use mine for higher volumes but their added power brings out the best audio quality some of my headphones are capable of but can achieve it with the stock amp in the iPods. Sound quality does depend on the headphones used but it shouldn't get worse. I go through the headphone jack setting the iPod to about 80% volume and normally don't turn the amps up over 50%. The main reason I use the amps is to "wake up" the sound quality my Alessandro MS2 headphones are capable of improving their clarity, soundstage and bass substantially. Most of my other headphones do not sound any better through the amps but they will play louder.

Are you sure you tried an amp which would have it's own volume controls or just a "Line Out" adapter which does not have an amp in it?

I tested any mp3s with mp3 gain and when the db level ist too high the mp3s are defect...i try it and the used mp3s have scratches and clippig left in it and this is a nogo for me.
Yes i tryed a an amp with a volume control.

Is there anybody that has these files so i try it to put it on my Pod and when it not work ok then i must find another way to make the Pod louder.

You can get around this. Just do a g search of how to remove eu volume limits on iPod and iPhone and you will find the answer. Trust me it works!

Like I said, it doesn't work and is a waste of time. The guy in those other forums could not have done this to a real iPod classic. When I say "real," I man an iPod that Apple labeled as being an iPod classic. The iPod classic was first released in 2007, updated in 2008, and updated again in 2009. The iPod classic has yet to be hacked and firmware from other countries cannot be installed on devices not from specific regions. There were tricks for removing the EU volume cap on older iPod models with hard drives but not the iPod classic line. The cap can be removed from the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch through the jailbreak process.

Lastly, headphone amps are different from dock connector line output adapters. Headphone amps are actually self-powered (they either run off of batteries or an internal rechargeable battery) and are about as big as the iPod classic is. In fact, many of them clip onto the iPod classic for easy storage and use. They are nothing like the small adapters that plug into the dock connector. Headphone amps have their own volume adjustment.

So i bought a used US Pod now via ebay.

But my search will go on. There must be a way to find out how to disable this volume cut.
For examole in the iPod Touch Versions the EU sound is cut to the value 0,83 and possibly Apple use the same value in the Classic. In the next weeks ill try to find these in the EU Firmware with a Hex-Editor.

If there was a way, it would have been figured out 5 years ago when the first iPod classic came out. The firmware became harder to crack and it just wasn't worth the effort as the functionality of the iPod classic is slim compared to iOS devices.
