Ok, I work at a RadioShack, and I talked to a customer who wanted to trade in a 120 gig iPod. I had a 32 gig that was stolen a while ago, so a 120 for a cheaper price? Im like sign me up! After talking with the customer, he agreed to let it go for about 40 bucks, he also tells me that the battery is dead as he hasn't used it in about 6 months. I'm like ok, I'll just plug it into a dock or the iPad charger and call it a day until i take it home and plug it in again. So after about 2 hours of charging, on a docking station, then the wall outlet, and then the computer, still nothing.
Reasonably, I'm like did I just get suckered out of 40 dollars? So i take it off the dock and hit the internet to see if anyone else is having the same problem. Find a couple of different options, most of which recommend the 5 r's as apple calls it. That doesn't work. iTunes is up to date, and i can't get the iPod to give me any kind of response. I tried the shuffling of the hold button, and then the restart, nada. So i left it off the dock and the computer, and the wall. When I tried it this morning, I got a flicker of a response, the screen when gray, and then nothing. Screen still looks gray, so im guessing it froze, but im not sure. Can anyone recommend something, or should i just purchase one of the battery replacement kits offline if that's the issue. The iPod is old, so i dont think apple will cover it under warranty, and as far as the replacement thing i keep hearing about, i seriously doubt i'll get anything comparable to it, from them. What should I do? |

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do except start the process of trial and error. Buy a new part, install it, and see if that fixes things. You can start with the battery but don't be surprised if you end up having to replace more. You may not have to replace anything other than the battery but you just never know as the problem could actually be with the logic board or even the dock connector itself.
Start with one thing, the battery, and work your way around from that.
