About the only thing you can do is use the Bass Boost EQ but all of the EQ's on the iPod are rather bad. You can also RockBox your iPod but that requires the installation of a 3rd party firmware whose battery life numbers are not as good as the iPod's stock firmware. Their EQ's seem a little better but you have to trade those for reduced battery life.

Hmm... turning on bass boost under EQ only seems to turn down the volume. This RockBox thing sound interesting. Can you tell me a bit more about it?
Thanks for your help kornchild. |

You don't want to know more about Rockbox. As I said, the experience is subpar compared to the iPod's own firmware and you will be limited to its EQ's as well. I think it may offer a visual EQ but things aren't that much better than what the stock firmware already offers. Feel free to Google around, Google won't bite you or anything like that.
Bass boost turns down the mids and highs while keeping the lows at a higher volume. You don't want to actually boost the bass coming from your iPod as that would result in audible clipping. Clipping is something bad that would detract from the music listening experience. Instead, you need to focus on what you are playing your iPod on. Look at getting a new pair of headphones or messing around with your car stereo system. Additionally, if you are hooking it up to your car, make sure you are using either an auxiliary connection (with a dock connector, not through the headphone port) or USB connection. Mess around with your car's EQ as that will provide better results than what Rockbox can.

What are you playing your music through. There is MOREthan enough bass coming out of the iPod, but if you are using crappy equipment then you won't get what you want.
