Hello Everyone,
I currently have a 80gb iPod Classic which I have had for a while now and I have always disliked the new split screen OS that Apple released for it's Classic iPods. The screen is not that big to begin with so splitting it in half does not make sense to me. Also, I don't know about everyone else but who has pictures for all their songs? So I am left with the generic picture taking up half my screen. On top of that pictures make the iPod run slow, especially in the split screen main menu. In looking around it appears that most users that own 5G iPod Videos are looking to get the Classic OS yet I am trying to do the opposite. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any way to get the old 5G iPod Video OS onto my iPod Classic? Or just to be able to get rid of the generic split screen picture icon in the Classic OS? Before everyone responds, I am fully aware after doing research in the past that the iPod Classic has an unbreakable encryption. I am not looking to hack it, I am just wondering if anyone knows if Apple ever released the option to go back to their old firmware from the iPod Video? I did try going back to the 5G Video, but the battery life is terrible, the Classic was designed to be so much more efficient with battery life. Funny when you think about it that you hear stories of people able to hack into government computer systems yet a company like Apple would put an unbreakable encryption into a device like an mp3 player. If anyone has any info that could help me, it will be greatly appreciated. |

No, you cannot change the look of the iPod classic's interface without hacking it, modifying code, and doing other things along those lines (if it can even be done with the iPod classic). Apple has not released a firmware for the iPod classic that makes it look like that of the 5G iPod and there aren't any options you can change in the iPod classic to make it behave like the previous generation.
In fact, I would say that Apple has given up on updating the iPod classic line. I don't think it has received a firmware update since 2009 and that seems to be it.

Thank you for your response
The way the iPod evolved at the end was such bad timing. If only there could have been a generation model between the video and the classic where it kept its old OS yet received the updated efficiency. But in came the dawn of apps, and with those apps came $$$$ and Apple has never looked back, ignoring the device that bought their name to the masses. Well anyways, if anyone has any other ideas I still haven't given up hope, well I have given up about 99% of my hope on the matter, but I still have 1%. |
