I own a 60 GB iPod Photo which has a hard drive that's seen better days. We have a 160 GB SATA 1.8" drive that we got for free (not for the iPod), and I was wondering: is there a way to get this drive (it's a Fujitsu, unsure of the exact model number at the moment) to work with my iPod? I don't want to spend £50 on either another iPod or a new hard drive if I can do a much cheaper fix.

I'm well aware it has a PATA connector, my question was whether there was some way of converting the PATA to SATA without massive cost or changing the case?

I have seen some converters. They are under $20 but I doubt that they will fit inside the iPod.

There are ssd drives that will fit the ipod photo, kinspec is one of the manufactures. What you need to look for is a 50 pin 1.8" ssd, currently the largest capacity is 256gb

I am well aware of these, however I cannot afford anything like the amount required for an SSD, else I would fit one, or at least wouldn't bother with a SATA-to-50-pin converter in the first place! I'm probably going to go down the ZIF-to-50-pin converter as some of those are advertised as fitting iPods - anyone have any experience with these?
