im trying this as well. just need to the get the ipodupdater full folder, including all files. (updater.exe , installer , language etc....)
I reckon using a program like winiso, it would be possible to put it into the european iso and then change all regional settings of pc to america, then install with the modded european cd. Should work. thats the theory |

Tjeck your mail, you should be able to download it now. I have a nero ISO (in rar) of the US cd already, however it is 550mb (maby i should delete the MMJB installers). I just dont have anywhere to publish it. ANybody have space for 550 mb ? I have the iPodForWindows and the iPodUpdater on the internet already, but i can only send it over email, because im using yahoo briefcase, and it only work when i invite people because i have the free version. Anybody now a free web server, with to limit of filesize ?

Hi
I responded to your mail! I tried to acess your briefcase but for some reason i can't. Do i have to set up an yahoo account myself to do this??? I reckon that all thats needed is the american folder. I doubt that the whole cd iso is needed yet! But try the folder thingy first and see how we get on! Thanks |

I tried sending it again. I also sended it to myself, it worked fine. I also sended the link to ModelCitizen, and he could download it fine. You should recieve a list with three links. Then you should just click on one of the links and then click on the document. I dont know wether or not you need a yahoo account to download it.

this is what i found in the apple support forum by an apple forum helper:
"This actually started with the 1.2.6 updater - a single updater file for the entire planet..... What the installer is looking at is your system settings. If it determines you are in the US, you get no volume discrimination. If it determines you are in Europe, you get the dampening the EU (actually, France dictated) volume. Some have had success with the following procedure: Change your OS to US English (look around in your system preferences, there are settings for keyboard layout, language, etc). After changing your system, reboot it. Now install the iPod Updater Application, hook up the iPod and run the 'restore' option. Remember, this will erase all songs/files from the iPod. This should also put the US version on your iPod. Once this is done, you can change your system settings back. The iPod will remain as a US iPod unless you need to run a 'restore' again. " it seem the volume setting depends on the settings of your operating system. if you use a us windows or mac os you have access to full ipod volume if not ...

Yes that is correct, but only for the old ipod. This dosnt work for docking pods. ModelCitizen have already tried this (he told me).

Ok, first off, inputting a different serial number doesn't make a difference to the actual unit. Once you check in the about box it still displays the same information.
I changed my regional settings etc... to the U.S. I then used the updater file that was given to me. It didn't really seam to make much difference. Only thing i could ask is, Could someone in the US, that has access to a creative zen (so that we can be sure we are using the same scale) do a similar test to the one i just did. I encoded an mp3 at 192 kbit. I transfered this file to the zen and the ipod. I turned the equalizer off on both. I turned the volume up maximum on the ipod. Immediately with the same headphones, i played the same passage of music on the zen. I started off low volume and gradually started incrementing the volume on the zen until they told me to stop. This point at which they stopped , i changed over to the ipod and compared again and repeated until they were satisfied. All 5 people reckoned that the ipod was about 21 on the scale (zen goes from 0-25). Funnily the biggest change in volume on the zen seams to be once you go over the 20 mark. At 25 its like floorstanders! Can someone with an american ipod check this please?? As far as i know, the creative zen is not limited by french law at all, and hasn't ever had any capp's placed on its max volume Kind Regards, i_wolf |

Maybe if we all started to enjoy frogs legs more, it won't affect future iPods eh?

Hi Guys!
Regarding the volume problem with the european software of the iPod I have read over at the Apple discussion board that a european Apple technican has told a user that indeed the software on the european iPod CD is DIFFERENT! That would mean: if we get a copy of the US software we might be lucky and can change the firmware to US!!!! To those who a legaly concerned: as long as I have bought the iPod and have my own copy of the software (which is clear, I can only use an iPod if I have bought one of course) it does not make any difference to Apple which firmware I use. So they can give a sh*t on that. It's NOT like stealing a software-program. It is just applying a different firmware. Apple can't be held responsible for me doing this so they won't even bother. So please please please fellow US iPod owners, please e-mail this software! It is not that big! You can e-mai it to: doom at macnews.de (please use an "@" instead of the "at" above) And yes, my mailbox is big enough. you would make so many of us happy! thanks in advance regards Kind Aragorn |
