80Gb iPod Classic upgrade to 160Gb

Greetings.
I have an 80Gb iPod (6G) Classic with a dead hard drive.
I am considering replacing the 80Gb drive with a 160Gb model but am unsure whether it is as simple as just replacing the drive. Are there any other issues I need to consider (such as ZIF cable, battery etc)
Any advice would be appreciated.

Nope,
It is that simple, the zif flex differs only on the hard drive connector to your current 80gb drive but they are peanuts to buy compared to the cost of the 160gb drive.
here's a link to what you need.
eBay.ie: 160GB ZIF Hard Drive Cable for iPod Classic (item 400112535807 end time 27-Sep-10 11:54:58 BST)

The battery should be ok as is.

Important note.
when buying the replacement drive make sure to get the same width drive as your current 80gb.
You have either the fatty or the skinny, (5mm or 8mm) single or double platter) If you are buying a 160gb single platter skinny drive you will notice the large jump in price compared to the 160gb fatty drive (8mm) You may consider changing the back plate and earjack to accomodate the fatty drive and it may work out cheaper that way.

I was wondering if a could make the same upgrade with my 6th generation ipod classic. The answer here is very helpfull, so i looked on ebay to find a 5mm (wich is simpler if I don't have to change earjack, backplate or other stuff). I found this one: ebay.ca/itm/1-8-TOSHIBA-MK1634GAL-CE-ZIF-160GB-5MM-Hard-Drive-HDD-iPod-Classic-7th-Gen-/221104476596?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash= item337ada91b4, with a fat connection (I didn't open my ipod yet, but a think the 80g's have a larger connection than the 160gb, isn't it?). But they assure it's only working for the 7th generation... i'm messed up...somebody may help me to choose de right HDD? Thanks!

As far as I am aware, you cannot upgrade the hard drive of any iPod released with the "classic" moniker. The most modern iPods, with hard drives, that can be upgraded are the 5G and 5.5G iPods released in 2005 and 2006 (respectively). The hard drive in your iPod classic is the hard drive it will forever be stuck with. The only replacement hard drive that can be put into that iPod classic is one that has the same capacity (80GB) and uses the exact same connectors and runs off of the same power regiment as the HDD already in your iPod.
