but now everytime i connect it says the same everytime that i need to restore it.

i dont fancy ahving to re-sync all my music to add an album to the ipod

Here, there, and anywhere
try quit itunes and opening it again.
then try restarting your computer.
then un-install itunes and re-install it.
the i have no idea what to do next.

Ok so i have fixed the problem, and for the sake of any future users who search this error, here is my fix:

1. Hold down MENU 8 SELECT
2. Once the apple logo appears, hold down SELECT & PLAY to enter disk mode
3. Connect ipod to PC
4. Go to COMPUTER MANAGEMENT (Right click MY COMP > MANAGE)
5. Go to DISK MANAGEMENT
6. Find the ipod and CHANGE DRIVE LETTER (to a free letter)
7. SAVE and Eject the ipod drive.
8. Hold down MENU & SELECT to reboot
9. Once ipod has rebooted, plug into PC and itunes should now recognize and sync only the new changes.

IF the drive letter selected is already free, i suggest reformatting thr drive through DISK MANAGMENT and then do 1 big resync of all your music and see if that solves the problem.

Hope this helps anyone else.

Using Windows? Try connecting the iPod in Disk Mode, check the disk for errors (Windows Disk Check), then reformat the disk using the Windows Reformat tool. Afterwards, format the disk with the iPod firmware in iTunes and sync your music.

Result?
