iPod Classic 80 GB Firmware

Is there away to add a specific firmware to an iPod Classic 80 GB? I downloaded a firmware and I want to install it. There is the option that you can go to iTunes and plug the iPod in and hold down shift and click on check for update and the box is supposed to come up so you can pick the file but it doesn't work, it doesn't do anything. Please help.

The update files must be stored in the "iPod Software Updates" folder (sorry, I forget where it goes on Windows. But you've p'bly already got one on your machine, so just look for it...). There are two files required -- one is the actual update file (with .ipsw extension) and the other is a hash file with extension .signature. If you don't have the signature file, you can't proceed, so make sure you get it.

Then disconnect your ethernet cable (or turn off wireless) and click the Restore button; when iTunes sees it has no net connection, it will let you look for stored updates.
