I had let the battery go dead over the summer.
Connected it to the computer to charge and then got the error messages. It will charge up however, the computer gives error message: USB Device not Recognized" The diagnostics all work out. It plays music but it just doesn't sync with the computer. When in disk mode, it says "OK to disconnect" and the computer gives the same error message as it seems that it doesn't connect. I have changed the USB setting regarding power management. It will mount to an Apple and I did a restore there, and then brought it home. Got the same error message after the restore. Any other thoughts? DMT Last edited by DMT_ipod; 09-06-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

On your PC, are you using USB 2.0?

according to ipod classic manual, it needs to be charged some before it will communicate with a computer.
you said it will mount to an apple, is it in fact, an apple formatted ipod? windows format ipods can be read by macs, but not 'other way round. |

Yes i am using USB 2.0. I even tried it on my laptop and get the same response.
I think something happened when I first plugged it in and started itunes myself. I went to the apple store to test it, as sometimes when you get a glich in windows, you can get it to mount through macs. I have replaced the HD and battery a year ago, and reformatted it for Windows. DMT Last edited by DMT_ipod; 09-07-2008 at 08:59 AM. |
