Ipod 30gb 5th G- would love some help

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on my ipod that appears to be dead. Last night I was charging my ipod through the usb on my PC. After a couple of hours of charging it started to beep and a warning message came up that battery was really low and to leave it charging for awhile. I looked back at my ipod around an hour later and all signs that it was operational had gone. I can no longer get anything to come up on the screen including the apple logo. Won't respond to being plugged into my PC at all and I have tried doing a reset with no results. Considering the battery warning message that appeared after 2 hours of charging, does that sound like it is just the battery that has died or maybve something more sinister? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Oh, btw I dont have a power adapter to check if i get a response that way

Have you tried another PC or powered USB port?

Sounds like one of three things:
- Problem with the cable
- Problem with the USB port
- Problem with the iPod

Hopefully, it's one of the first two ...

Hey again, thanks for the replies

I have now tried a different PC and different cable but still no luck unfortunately. Does this sound like the battery has packed up and needs replaced? Or possibly something not so easily fixed such as the HDD?

Cheers again

If the battery is shot it should still play if connected to a power source so it sounds like something extra to just the battery dying.

sounds like somehow the polarity got reversed ( possable with a bad ground ) and the battery would need to be replaced this can be done pretty easily at the repair shop and not too expensive

"POLARITY"? I've never heard that word (amongst many) used in iPod chat. Would that really affect how an iPod will charge and sync? How can it be corrected?

it's what happens to a battery when you try and charge it with a bad ground ( same thing will happen to a cafr battery if you cross the cables ) another way is when the battery is getting old and the usable amout of charge is getting less and less it can reverse

like I said it's an easy fix just need to replace battery ( if that's what the trouble is ,it may not be )
