Thumbs up iPod - Right channel and hold switch not working...

Hi, I recently purchased a new case for my iPod video 5G and installed it, but when I turned on the iPod the hold switch and the right channel stopped working. I know that a lot of people have this problem, and the most logical thing to me was to replace it. So, I bought the part and installed it, but it still isn't working.
Is there a problem on the board that I could check to see what is wrong?
Also, is the connection to the case (from the hold switch) a possible problem for this? ie. if this connection was faulty would it cause the iPod to do what my iPod is doing?

While the music is playing and the hold switch is off, press kinda hard with your thumb just to the right of pause/play and below the forward button and outside of the click wheel. If you can manage to squeeze some noise out, you may have a faulty logic board.

right channel only

I've been trying to fix a broken ipod and have had the same problem with audio only working for the right channel. It's not the headphones. I tried reneipod's fix and it worked for me. What specifically am I pushing on that is making the left audio channel work? Im assuming that this rules out the headphone jack. Also, the copper wire for the HOLD switch was severed when I changed the battery (I don't think this would effect the sound playback.)

I guess my question is: Is their anyway to regain stereo playback without replacing the logic board?
