Just replaced screen, no backlight now

Title says it all. My Video iPod had its screen broken. Got a new one off of eBay, installed it, and it works. Apart from the fact that now there's no backlight.

Do the iPod screens come with backlights in them? Can you buy the backlights on ebay? Have I just not connected something? Why does Apple hate me?

Yesterday, I (or rather, my Dad, he's an engineer) got the screen working with backlight -- now I can see the backlight and nothing else!

How'd he get the backlight to work? I'm trying to fix a washed nano 3g. I have everything working except the backlight. I can see that the LCD is displaying everything it should. Was is a bad connection with the flex circuit?

It was indeed. On the Video one at least, the screen connector has a little black bit that actually slides back. This lets you push the cable in further.

Thanks.

Nano video here as well. I think mine is all the way in, but no light. There are two white lines going across the flex circuit. When it is plugged in, I can still see both lines. One just aligns with the black part which you referred to. Is this correct? TIA
