I was riding the shuttle to my job this morning and watching an episode of something on my ipod. The ep ended, the bus stopped, I looked down at my ipod only to see that it had frozen on that black screen you see right before a video starts, or right after it ended. I instantly pressed the Menu Button and the Select button at the same time in order to restart the machine. No luck. it's still on, frozen on that black screen, and glowing like it's waiting for a video to start. Obviously I tried getting it to resart several times, but since it wont, I can't get it into disc mode. I'm currently at work, but a friend is going to bring his iPod usb cord so I can hook it up to my windows box and hope that gets it unstuck. If I do this, and make sure it doesn't try to sync (i'm not even sure this machine has Itunes on it), I should be ok assuming it resets, and begins to work properly?
Update- Hooked it up to a windows machine and nothing...still on the blank screen. |

Technically, the Apple suggested way to reset is to toggle the hold switch on, then off, then press and hold the menu and select button together. Sometimes, it only takes a few seconds to reset and other times it may take around 10 - 15 seconds.

This occasionally happens to my 80gb classic. put the hold button on for 10 seconds, switch off & hold the middle/button together which will cycle the ipod off. Sometimes you have to do this 2 or 3 times to get it to take.

I am having the same problem, but this time it just wont restart. I plugged it into my mac, the do not disconnect message came on and froze completely. I've plugged it into a wall outlet, toggled the switch numerous times, held the middle and play buttons for up to 60 seconds and nothing!
Done this 20 times already. What else can I do?

To reset an iPod you need to press MENU and SELECT (center) at the same time.

I have recently purchased a new iPod 80gb classic and have successfully put my music collection on there and some photos. Today I thought I'd be a bit more creative and put on a DVD of a tv show I love. There were 4 episodes uploaded and it says on the menu that the total hours on the iPod is 3:14:44 which makes me think there are three hours and a bit's worth here, so why does it run the show perfectly for about 5 minutes and then stops and goes back to the menu screen? I'm a bit disappointed as I thought it was ok.
Can anyone tell me what's the easiest thing to do? Thank you |
