I've had 2 iPods now. My first one only lasted me a couple years before it wouldnt even turn on anymore. My second and current one is having some major problems with freezi g and skipping now and I've had it about 2 years as well. I take very good care of my stuff so it isn't because it is treated poorly.
I am thinking about getting a new one but I'm scarred it wont last me any longer than my last two. I don't even want another ipod if they don't last long. Do they only have a 2 year life expectancy? |

We have several iPods that are older than two years. My family has a launch 5th gen (2+ years), a 4th gen photo (3 years old) and a 4th gen mono (almost 4 years). As with all electronics, each machine is different. Your next iPod may work for much longer. Another brand MP3 player may die early as well.
Whatever you decide to buy, you may want to think about getting an expended warranty. I do not have much experience with them myself, but something to think about. You also might want to consider a refurbished iPod. They require less of an investment (because you get a nice discount). And I have found them to be as good or even better than a brand new iPod. Whatever failed has been fixed, and the entire machine was given a thorough examination, which is more than you get from general mass manufacturing practices. In theory, this should lead to a more reliable machine. |
