U2 iPods phased out?

Did they completely phase out the U2 iPods with the new classic?

It would seem so, at least for now.

They could still release a classic U2 edition, previous U2 editions have been released a few months later than the non-U2 editions. It's also possible that they won't.

I just bought my U2 edition video iPod on clearance from Apple.

Seems so. I've looked everywhere (for new) but can't find them.

IMO the U2 edition is simply a waste of money. Why bother paying more money to have an artist's name inscribed that you never met?

If they do update it to Classic, they'll probably wait until the Fall as U2 is supposed to be coming out with a new album then. Maybe even in a different color scheme to match the new album's "colors".

Because if you're a U2 fan (like some of us here) then you'll pay an extra $50 or whatever it is. Plus it looks different to the basic black, silver and white iPods.

I'm a huge U2 fan, but I still don't see the point of it.

I think "artist" iPods are a complete rip off, and a waste of money.

480 songs on an 80GB iPod? Why bother. Plus 95% from one artist, that's just extremely sad.
I'm a huge Springsteen fan, but no where near 35% of my 15,500 songs are Springsteen let alone 95%.

No, it was under the clearance section. It's brand new, not refurbished, they just don't have any now. They had them on there for 2 days, I was going to buy it the next day and they were gone, but a few days later they were back on the clearance page and I bought mine. The next day they were gone, maybe due to someone canceling their order is why they were back or they located some more stock. You just have to keep an eye on that clearance page to find a deal.

And it definitely can't be called a "rip-off" on clearance, they were the same price as the non-U2 30GB iPods on clearance.

But...when they were brand new they were selling for $50.00 more than the standard iPods. As long as they are the same price I see no problem with it.

The U2 iPods had the red clickwheel and a black body, didn't they?

I think there'd be people in abundance willing to pay the extra dosh to get that point of difference.

That signature is old. I got it down to about 400 songs - about 150 U2 songs (some live shows, about three or four and about 12 albums) and as well, other artists could be something like Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson etc could make it to 400.

I haven't listened to even 20% of the iPod yet either. And about 50% of U2 would be about all I've listened to.

Plus I paid the extra because I got all their albums included. It really doesn't do anything functionally different. I got it as a present - so I kept it.

Same here. I purchased the Complete U2, Complete Bob Dylan, Complete Depeche Mode and well, I doubt I have even listened to 5% of all of that music. I just bought the complete collections to well, be complete. When I get in the mood sometime, I'll hear it all.
