Ipod 5G with video 60gb won't play songs

In every way it seems that my ipod is fine, it did freeze on the apple logo for a long time but that seems to be sorted now.

but now no matter what i do i can't actually get it to play songs, i can navigate to a song and press play and the icon at the top right will say that the song is playing but no sound comes out and the song timer still reads 0:00 so it never actually plays.

I have restored the factory settings on my ipod but it hasnt solved the problem.

any thoughts?

whenever this happens to me, I reset it. Press and hold the menu and select buttons at the same time till you see the apple logo, then release. Sometimes I have to hold the buttons down longer than 5 seconds. So far, this is my fix without trying to restore.
