Classic freezing while connected to iTunes

I have an 80 gig classic running iTunes 7.5 for Windows XP. I might have a USB port issue on my computer but I doubt it (since I've tested just about all of them).

When I connect my Ipod with iTunes running, I cannot even click on iTunes. Only when my iPod is disconnected can I use iTunes.

I don't know if this is a firmware issue. I had this issue before and I was able to trick iTunes into recognizing my iPod by using the iPod updater (6-10-2006).

Anyone have this issue? I can't even restore the damn thing because iTunes won't recognize this.

I am running firmware version 1.0.3.

Thanks.

ps

How long are you waiting after connecting your iPod to iTunes? I have seen some cases where iTunes has frozen for two or three minutes before responding to a newly-connected iPod, although this seems to have been fixed with later iTunes and iPod firmware versions.

Provided you have all of the music on your iPod already in iTunes or backed up somewhere else, you could try just reformatting your iPod from the operating system level (just like any other hard drive) and see if it's more responsive from there. This would at least allow iTunes to detect it as a "corrupted" iPod and offer to do a restore on it. This will determine if there may be some corrupt data on the iPod itself that's causing iTunes to get confused.

Reformatting didn't work.
