I got this 4gb mini used and I am not sure what type I have. I read on apple.com that there's two version of the Sliver 4gb mini. There's one where the battery is suppose to last 6 hours and one that is suppose to last 18 hours.
I charged the Ipod mini for 4-6 hours maybe more. The battery says it's full when I take it off . It seems that when I used the controls the battery sucks out wicked fast. Like: I charged it for 4 hours and I while I was scrolling through the songs that is already on the Ipod, within about an hour - hour 1/2 the battery was completely gone. But if I don't use the control functions and put the player on hold and just listen to music, it plays for like 3 hours give or take. I am not sure if this is normal, is it? Should I buy a new Battery or should I send it to apple, etc? Thanks in advance for any help given

Cheaper if you're a bit handy with a really small screwdriver and sensible enough to take it easy and earth yourself, to buy a new battery and have a go yourself.
IF it's still the original case / motherboard combination, then capacity on the back = 2nd Gen No capacity on back =1st Gen. Batteries are interchangeable, i.e. not gen specific, but 2nd gen are designed for the batteries to last much longer and nothing you can do about that. You can however buy more powerful batteries than the originals - just make sure you get a kosher one, and you can swap the microdrive CF type II for a CF type I card. No mechanical parts = less lektrickery used...... HTH, Dave. p.s. - there are potential problems with the motherboard that may cause power problems and if that's the case you'll need a new motherboard...however, if it's still on its original battery then it probably just needs a new battery - good luck!!
