I've been wanting a ipod but I can't decide between the ipod video and the ipod classic.
I've been reading about the problems with the ipod classic and it makes me wary of buying one. So, ipod classic or should I stick with ipod video 5.5 80GB? Also, if I did update, which color do you think is better, silver or black? Please help |

there are always going to be problems, irregardless of the ipod. when the 5th gen was released, there were plenty of bugs associated with it as well. they will, for the most part, be worked out eventually. So I would say don't let that necessarily turn you away. choose based off of your needs and the features.
as for color, that's really depending on your preference. I personally like black, but that's just me. |

I decided on a Silver {since I already have one black & one white 80GB} 160GB iPod Classic despite the problems since a firmware update will correct them.

What about accessories? I really wanted an Ihome but how does the glossy colors of the accessories match the new color tone of the ipod classic?

The glossy colors match just fine. I do think that the black iPod classics look a lot better than the silver ones though especially since all the official iPod accessories are white. In my opinion, white goes a whole lot better with black than silver. I have a iPod Hi-fi, iPod universal dock, and a bunch of other glossy white accessories, they all go with my black 160GB iPod classic. I can't really say how well they would match with the silver model but I don't think the white headphone match the silver iPod so the other white accessories probably won't match it either.
Then again, if you are smart, you will purchase a case like a iSkin that will completely cover your iPod. iSkins make it so you can use your iPod with any accessory including docks. I have my iPod classic with a iSkin eVo3 on it sitting in my iPod Hi-fi. So the real question would be what color case you get.

I would want a black ipod for sure. I haven't really thought about getting a skin for it.
How do you feel your ipod works? I mean, I'm just looking to play music (the only thing an Ipod should do imho). Are you having any problems with your ipod classic? Do you have any accessory that is used as an alarm clock? I've been dying to get one of those. |

My personal opinion is this..if you:
- can't deal with bugs (minor/major) - don't need the 160GB capacity/40hr battery life - don't need a flashy interface Pick up a 5.5G. Otherwise if you can deal with the bugs for awhile, need the better battery and capacity then of course get the classic.

I don't have any accessories that use my iPod as an alarm clock but I do have a ton of accessories for my iPod. I too generally use my iPod for audio playback but I can use it for other purposes such as music video, concert, movie, and photo playback. Now that my iPod has good battery life (going from 3.5 hours on my 5G iPod to 7+ hours on my 160GB iPod classic), I really enjoy watching and carrying around ripped concert DVDs. I can watch about 5 concert DVDs and still have 15-20 hours of audio playback left on my battery. That isn't bad at all as most trips I go on take less than 8 hours. I do go on cross country flights every once in a while and that is when the iPod classic will really come in. I sometimes travel from El Paso, TX straight to New York, NY and those flights can take quite a bit of time. My iPod classic will have the ability to play video the entire time during flight and still have enough battery juice to give me music the rest of the day.
I must say that I haven't experienced the bugs in great affect as some other people on these boards. I did experience two issues (one actually being a bug) with my iPod classic: 1. Slow cover flow browsing 2. Photo playback would not work on the iPod's screen unless I pushed the center or play buttons. Slow cover flow has been fixed with the new firmware update as it used to take my iPod 4-5 seconds for the album art to fully come up, it now takes 1-2 seconds.

I purchased an Ipod Classic 160GB. I wasn't aware of the extended battery life. 7+ is amazing.
Now, are there any accessories that I should get right off the back? I literally just purchased the ipod. |

The price of the new iPod classics is excellent, you get much more bang for your buck storage wise. But to be honest the actual differences in hardware and software are rather slight or at least compared to previous generations.

Is there a balck charger that I can get for the black classic? Also, is there a list that has been compiled of what accessories are available for the ipod classic?
