Now there is a definite difference between ipod Classic games and the original games for ipod 5.5G, will there be any more games released for the original ipod.
The potential options are: 1. No more games for the old 5.5G ipods, only new games for the ipod Classic and Nano 2. Future games are released in a number of flavours for the different devices 3. There is a way to make new games compatible with both OS systems 4. A possible firmware upgrade to bring the 5.5G versions more in line with the Classic. Heres hoping for option 4

There's a huge installed base. Personally, I'd think the answer is yes. I see no reason why Apple would suddenly pinch off development of games for the 5G platform. Since I doubt that Apple will want to have different games for different "classic series" iPods, I'd be inclined to vote for the "minor firmware upgrade for 5 adn 5.5G iPods to bring them in line with Classic (6G) iPod game compatibility."

I sure hope not ! who would buy them now knowing when they upgrade they wont be able to use their games?
The only decent way to do it if they continued making them for the 5G would be cheaper games..... Because like with games consoles who would pay Playstation 3 prices for a playstation 2 game ? and yet you can actually play PS2 game on the PS3

I sure hope they come out with a firmware update for the Classic that will play all the old games. I loved having games on my ipod. I had bought 18 games for my 5G Video 60, and I play them a lot. I assumed (yes, I know how to spell "###-u-me") that all the games would play on my new Classic 160. I was shocked to see that they don't.
I'm very hopeful that Apple will fix this soon. And I really hope they continue to add more games (playable on both 5G and 6G). |

I also assumed that the games would play on my classic 160. However, when I noticed that the slideshow removed some the 3D transitions and found out that the games would not work, I wondered if they removed the broadcom video processor chip (which had simple 3D rendering). It appears as though they have and replaced it with a software renderer (I noticed that when reading through the legal part on the iPod). The software renderer theoretically can render the games from the 5.5g; the only limitation being that it takes time to correctly create a 3D emulator. It just might be taking them some time.
Sponge.
