ipod restoring restoring and restoring

so i want to restore my ipod 80gb video
each time i plug it, itunes tells me to restore it
after a popup window that says something like 'ipod has been restored to factory mode' and then it says something like once something is done the ipod will appear on the source list
then i wait wait and wait for like 10 minutes or so, nothing shows on my source list, only the 'do not disconnect' logo keeps showing on my ipod, and then itunes pops up the message 'itunes has detected a corrupt ipod, you may need to restore it before you can use it'

i unplug, and then restore again, it happens again, many times

what should i do

I recently had a similar problem with my 80G video. After 1 or 2 syncs, iTunes would just decide that it was corrupt and said I had to restore the iPod. Also had lots of crashing and locking up while I was trying to fix it.

Turns out the problem was the USB drivers on Vista were playing up. Had to boot into safe mode and uninstall all USB devices and hardware, and then let them reinstall. Not had a single problem since then.

i have tried the 'change drive letter' method but it doesn't help
it still asks me to restore it and it won't show on the source list after restoring, and just keeps asking me to restore

after about 8 hours straight of battling against this problem, seems that i will have to bring my ipod to the shop i bought it from, and hopefully they will give me a new one instead of having me wait for the repair

but i haven't given up yet
